Bermuda concert organizer responds following soca star’s fall

first_img“The headliner – Sean Paul, went on stage right after – the stage was fine. It’s just a very unfortunate accident.”Garcia, 38, known as the Queen of Bacchanal, is back home in Trinidad recovering from her injury which ruled her out of performances at Canada’s Caribana Toronto 2017 this weekend. She was also listed to appear next week at the Emancipation Festival in the British Virgin Islands. A spokesman for organizers of a Bermuda concert, in which Trinidadian soca star Destra Garcia fell and broke an ankle, has hit out at press reports. The reports in Trinidad and Tobago claimed the stage on which the artists performed gave way. A member of the production team accompanied Garcia to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, then back to her hotel to assist with getting her home. Andrew Holmes, of 441 Productions, which organized last Wednesday’s Summer Splash show ahead of the two-day Cup Match holiday, told the Royal Gazette newspaper there was nothing wrong with the stage. He pointed out that Jamaican rapper Sean Paul appeared after Garcia’s “unfortunate accident”. Holmes said statements in the Trinidad press that the stage had given way were “absolutely not the case”.“The stage was not compromised in any way, despite what the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian said. Missed Caribana performance Holmes said he did not speak personally with the singer, but she was “upset, and physically in pain”. Nothing wrong with stage Holmes said the production team that assembled the stage had done the job “for many years” without issues.“We’ve never had any problem with the quality of the stage.”last_img read more

The Queen’s Christmas Address – Will she mention Meghan?

first_img Following a request from a customer William Hill has offered odds of just 10/1 that Meghan Markle, the new girlfriend of Prince Harry, will be mentioned in the Queen’s Christmas address. The bookmaker has offered further markets on Markle, an actor best known for her roles in Suits and Fringe, with 25/1 that she’ll be engaged to Harry by the end of this year. It sees 2017 as a far likelier period in which the pair will announce the next major British royal engagement however, with odds as low as 3/1.William Hill Spokesman Rupert Adams commented: “Sadly it looks like they will be spending Christmas apart but absence makes the heart grow fonder and this could be the big story of 2017,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.Californian Markle is also a humanitarian who became the Global Ambassador for World Vision Canada this year and has worked for the U.N. as as advocate for gender equality and the empowerment of women. It was only in November that Kensington Palace confirmed that the relationship between Markle and Windsor was a few months old, with the Prince requesting for a ceasefire on the media harrassment of her and her family.Bookies are not adverse to markets on the Royals and earlier this year gave odds of 4/1 that the Queen, who turned 90 this year, would abdicate before the end of 2016. Prince Charles was at 1/4 to take over the reigns.(Image Credit) Related Articles William Hill accelerates transformation agenda to overcome COVID realities August 5, 2020 Submit SBC Magazine Issue 10: Kaizen Gaming rebrand and focus for William Hill CEO August 25, 2020 Share StumbleUpon Gamesys tops list for GambleAware Q1 donations July 10, 2020 Sharelast_img read more

O’Sullivan makes price-effective plea in snooker’s fixing fight

first_imgShare Submit Related Articles Sportradar supports snooker’s Championship League with data deal June 2, 2020 How BetCris has supported Ronnie O’Sullivan’s snooker success October 2, 2019 Share Betfred extends World Snooker Championship sponsorship May 2, 2019 StumbleUpon Five-time World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan says that more “price-effective” tournaments could be the answer in snooker’s fight against match-fixing.His comments came after the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) sanctioned three players – Yu Delu and Cao Yupeng, both from China, and Welshman David John. The trio have been suspended until the outcome of formal hearings, which will take place at a venue and date to be confirmed. All three players have the right to appeal against the decision.Posting on Twitter, O’Sullivan said: “Match fixing in snooker, I’m not sure punishing the players is the answer, the real question should be why do the players feel the need to do this? I have my own theory.”This theory is that high expenses are at the root of the issue. He says that the subsequent impact on a player’s yearly earnings means that these expenses “kill the players ranked outside the top 16″.“Maybe decrease the amount of small events and make the events you do have price-effective for everyone,” he continued.“Have more players if you like, but don’t put the players in a position where to make a living becomes unsustainable. Everyone eating is always a good thing in my book.”The 42-year-old, who said he was “talking about why some players feel the need to fix matches”, added: “Once you find out why, you can then try to make positive changes to stop it happening.“Whatever you do, no player on the main tour should end the season minus £30,000, and, trust me, there are a high percentage that are. A players’ union is the only way forward. Players stick together, and changes will happen, no players no game.”O’Sullivan concluded: “Some players will stick but I know others who can be picked off. Divide and rule never works for the long-term benefit of the all players.”However, World Snooker has countered these concerns by saying that prize money had “increased dramatically in recent years” and that it now goes deeper into the 128 professionals.Through a spokesperson, the sport’s governing body said: “Last season, 13 tour players earned over £300,000, 34 earned over £100,000 and 61 earned over £50,000.“Even taking into account expenses, the majority of players are earning good money. We have made huge progress over the past decade and we are committed to continuing this trend which will provide more earning opportunities for the players.”O’Sullivan will be sending delegates ‘Snooker loopy’ at this year’s Betting on Sports conference in London (18-21 September). Appearing as an ambassador for BetCris alongside the operator’s UK CEO Hilly Ehrlich, the Rocket is set to play a starring role in a session dedicated to why snooker is such a good fit with the bookmakers, held as part of the ‘Sport in Focus’ track.last_img read more
